(KRON) – The Contra Costa Health Hazmat Team is evaluating an unexpected release of petroleum coke dirt from the Martinez Refinery Company on Saturday, the refinery stated in a declaration. Around 1:15 p.m., petroleum coke was being moved within the refinery when a percentage of it was quickly air-borne.

Contra Costa Health sent out a HazMat group to “assess community impact” from the release of petroleum coke dirt.
Refinery authorities state the petroleum coke was maintained within the facilities of the refinery. A Community Warning System Level 1 notice was provided.
The event did not effect anywhere off-site, the refinery stated. Contra Costa Health tweeted at 3:17 p.m. that its HazMat group finished its analysis of the event and established no proof of off-site influences.
