SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A luxurious cruise ship, the Queen Victoria, is anchored at a San Francisco pier Wednesday after greater than 100 passengers and crew members turned sick with an unknown illness.
Cunard Cruise Line’s ship departed from Florida on January 22. The 3-week cruise was scheduled to make a cease in San Francisco earlier than crusing to Hawaii.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention mentioned 128 of the ship’s 1,824 passengers, in addition to 25 onboard crew members, reported falling ailing in the course of the voyage. Patients’ gastrointestinal signs included diarrhea and vomiting, the CDC mentioned.
CDC officers are investigating the outbreak and mentioned the trigger continues to be unknown.
In response to the outbreak, Cunard Cruise Line advised the CDC that it took the next actions:
- Increased cleansing and disinfection procedures in response to the ship’s outbreak prevention and response plan.
- Isolated ailing passengers and crew.

Health officers with the CDC’s Vessel Sanitation Program mentioned they’re “remotely monitoring the situation, including reviewing the ship’s outbreak response and sanitation procedures.”
A supply advised KRON4 that the Queen Victoria is slated to depart from San Francisco on Wednesday evening. The cruise is predicted to finish in Honolulu on February 12, in response to the CDC.
A Cunard spokesperson didn’t instantly reply to KRON4’s inquiry for extra details about the outbreak.
