United Airlines is examining just how a Boeing 757-200 shed a wheel during takeoff at Los Angeles International Airport on Monday.
United Flight 1001, lugging 174 guests and 7 team participants from LAX to Denver, was leaving soon after 7 a.m. when the accident took place.
The pilot of an Allegiant Airlines trip saw what occurred and right away reported it to air LAX air traffic control service.
“A tire came off that B-75 that took off. We saw it rolling down past bravo-seven, bravo-eight [holding positions],” the pilot informed the controller in sound that was shared by VASAviation.
